NAPA Valley Wine & Wheels Tour
|

It’s 0 five thirty and I’m looking at a flat trailer tire wondering what the heck am doing up at this hour! Seems I decided to try a tour out of our region
and signed up for the BAHC Wine and Wheels tour in the Napa Valley and this seems to be my punishment for doing so. So after an hour and
some choice morning language, Dorothy and I are on the road to Calistoga. Now if you haven't traveled I-5 lately, let me warn you, girley man Arnold
is not spending any of our road tax dollars on maintenance here. There are more patches and potholes just waiting to for you to drop a tire into,
jeees, it reminded me of Detroit and we don’t get freezing here. After a couple fuel stops we pull into quaint little Lodge at Calistoga which will be our
home for the next few days. The parking lot is full of the 55 cars signed up and ready to go. The SoCal group was well represented by; Warren and
Phunnee Record, Steve and Dawn Kellogg, Bill and Marilyn Balduff, Robin and Michele Onsoien and Bob and Dora Scott. There is a short shake
down tour on Sunday that gives us all a chance to see some of the beautiful wine country. Monday starts off with a steep climb followed by a long
steep downhill that claimed the Potts’ 1911 Mercedes. It made it to the bottom but the noises from the engine said its tour was over. So now we’re
into this tour only 25 miles and we have already lost the Stutz and the Mercedes! The rest of the day proved to be a snap after the morning hills.
Lunch stop was as expected, at a winery and the food and surroundings were very good. After a stop at the Silverado Brewing Company for some
late afternoon refreshments, Dorothy and I decide to stop at the campgrounds to see how some of the SoCal people were doing. Seems we
stumbled into wine tasting, food eating get together under the awning at the Onsiens camper, we stayed! Tuesday touring was a very nice route
around the lake with only a couple direction irregularities. The banquet was Tuesday evening with a short tour Wednesday along with a going away
luncheon. The tow home was a long 8 hours made even worse when 1/4 mile from home, the hitch decided to loose two of its mounting bolts! A
quick walk home to retrieve some bolts and the repair was done in time for the last hour of Lost!
